James Organisciak
Video Game Designer

For a Game Jam, working in a team of 8, we created a first person platformer. This game was created over the course of one week.

The theme of the Game Jam was: Take one, leave the rest.

To fit the theme, at the start of the game, player's must chose 1 of 3 colours which will determine the platforming path they must take.

Colours

When approaching the platforms, each platform on a row of 3 will light up with one of these 3 colours. The player must jump to platform that corresponds to the colour they chose.

The colours of the platforms are randomly generated, meaning the path the player takes is different for each attempt.

Platforms

The game features multiple different types of platforms to keep adding new challenges for the player to overcome. This also allows for a difficulty increase of the course of the level, to keep players engaged.

Movement

The game is set underwater, allowing for a floaty jump giving the player a large amount of control while jumping. This to give the player a chance to recover if they go wrong but also allows players to jump far distances when required to.

My Contribution

  • I Designed and programmed each type of platform.

  • I worked closely with another designer on the level design.

  • I had my own test level where I would prototype platforms, create a level with them and get other's to play through the level for feedback.

  • I Designed and programmed some UI elements.
